Influencer Marketing

Also known as: Creator Marketing, Influencer Partnerships, Creator Partnerships

Influencer marketing is a brand partnering with social media creators who have a trusted following, to reach that audience through their content. It works through borrowed trust: followers listen because they already value the creator's judgement, whether in a single sponsored post or a long-term partnership.

Influencers are often grouped by size, from nano-influencers with a few thousand followers to mega-influencers with millions. Smaller creators usually have closer relationships with their audience and higher engagement, and they suit niche products and local brands well. Many brands now prefer the word creator, because the value lies in the content and the community, not only in the reach.

Good partnerships start from fit rather than follower count: an audience that matches the brand’s, values that do not clash and the freedom to present the product in the creator’s own voice. Paid partnerships must be clearly labelled as ads in most countries, and in the UAE, creators who advertise also need a permit from the UAE Media Council. Checking engagement quality, not just numbers, helps avoid accounts with bought followers.
