Call to Action (CTA)

Also known as: CTA, Call-to-Action

A call to action (CTA) is the prompt that tells people what to do next, such as a button to book a call, a link to a guide or a line asking them to save a post. Without one, even good content leaves people unsure where to go.

Strong CTAs are specific and low in friction. “Get the checklist” says more than “Submit”, and a CTA that matches where the person is works better than one that asks too much too soon: someone discovering an account for the first time is more likely to follow or save a post than to book a sales call. One main CTA per piece of content avoids splitting attention.

On social media, CTAs also shape reach. Asking people to save, share or comment invites the interactions platforms read as signals of value, as long as there is a genuine reason to. Meta has said for years that it demotes engagement bait, such as asking people to tag a friend or vote with a reaction, so the ask has to feel natural.
